Harmonic Concordance:
|
“And
God said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven
to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs.” The Star of David in Formation Genesis and the Psalm of King David of the ancient
Hebrews remind us of our ability to communicate with eternal being
through the mysterious changing patterns we see in the sky. Everybody is asking, “What is the subject of this new “sign” aligning
in the heavens that will influence the world so powerfully over the
next six months?” What
does it mean and what fruit will this cosmic portent bestow upon our
magical lives? With this
mythic configuration, the rhythmic vibrations are pulsating through
heaven and earth, as people are turning their minds heavenward to contemplate
the Star of David configuration. What Exactly is this thing? Under
the Full lunar eclipse of November the 8th (8:13 EST),
six planets are gathering to form a hexagonal configuration in the
sky. The ancients called
it a Star of David alignment, but it has been dubbed the Harmonic
Concordance this time around. Technically,
it’s called a Grand Sextile by astrologers. Under
a Grand Sextile there is a major opportunity to harness creative
talents, but it requires great effort. Emerson
said, “Nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm.” On
the shadow side, people are searching, perplexed, and acting out
the shadow side of the three oppositions involved in the configuration
through being indecisive and squandering the potential. What’s
so harmonious about this message in the heavens? A Grand Sextile consists of six sextiles (60 degree angles)
and three oppositions (180 degree angles). Two
Grand Trines or Master Triangles interpenetrate each other symbolizing
the union of heaven and earth, yang and yin, creative light and source
wisdom. The fact that
it’s occurring in the Earth and Water elements adds to the expression
Body (earth) and Soul (water) qualities. A concordance is defined as a state of agreement or harmony. In essence this configuration is a harmonic harmony (how harmonic can you get?) among the planets involved. Usually during this century when this pattern appears it involves Pluto and Neptune due to the fact that they are locked into a sextile aspect for 100 years (Pluto sometimes comes down into Neptune’s realm and they move the same speed for a century, this time from about 1925 to 2025). This
concordance of November 2003 is rare in that it does not contain
this universal sextile between Pluto and Neptune, nor does it involve
Uranus. Only Chiron
acts as the transpersonal ambassador. The
fact that it’s happening under a lunar eclipse means that it has
been building up for 6 months and that it will continue to have considerable
power over the next six months (until the next Taurus new Moon next
May 18th). The Planets have struck an Accord? The
great astrologer/mystical mathematician Kepler would be very excited
about this configuration, and we should be too. What
harmonic agreement are the planets striking this fall? The
root “con” means with and “Cord” comes from the Latin root “cors”,
which means heart. So
a harmonic concordance indicates a state of harmony being achieved
between the planets because their hearts or essences are together. Harmony
of hearts. How can you bring harmony into your heart during this season
of the soul? How can you become wholehearted about the images and
soulful desires that reside within your heart? This
is a time of awakening your creative power and your capacity to live
from the deep heart. If
you’ve put in the work and gained your experience, then the universe
is ready to elevate you to the next level of living. Chiron: Zen
Master of Ceremonies
The
outer planets point to the collective, transpersonal vibes that shape
civilizations and cultures over the long haul. In
this configuration, Chiron is the Zen Master of ceremonies demonstrating
the Tao of Harmonic Living between the five other planets involved. Let’s
have a look at the other characters being invited into this great
play in the sky. First
we have Saturn symbolizing the urge to structure, organize, and achieve
(right ambition). Then there’s Jupiter, the urge to explore, expand consciousness,
and develop culture and religion (right faith). Next comes Mars, the urge to express desire, will, and motivation
(right action). Then
our star, the Sun, symbolizing the urge to shine, create, and live
(right purpose). And
lastly, our lady the Moon, symbolizing the urge for emotional contentment
and the experience of inner peace and security (right emotion) Chiron asks us to heal our collective soul wounds in all these areas. It symbolizes the force of devotion within each of us: devotion to pure, holistic living, devotion to our crafts and life works, and devotion to service and humility. In Capricorn, it loves devotion to a path of ambition through integrity. It likes to see people planning their work and working their plans. It teaches the wisdom of the proverb: If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Chiron wants us to succeed at awakening to our spiritual purposes. I interpret it as the higher octave of the luminaries and the lunar nodes, symbolizing the mythic quest to serve humanity through the fulfillment of a sacred journey of soulful purpose. People are born in response to spiritual needs on the planet. It’s up to each one of us to mobilize our wills so we have the courage to step up to bat to receive the opportunity to say yes to the journey. Chiron
governs spiritual healing, training, mentoring, and opens us to sacred
gifts that lie dormant within. If
we seek the inner teacher humbly, the gifts emerge and the lead of
the lower self transforms into the gold of the higher self. Only
then can the elixir be found that will heal your life, and help heal
the world through a life lived authentically. In
this time of chaos, when people prefer side paths to living their
unique dharma (life work), the most important skill we can learn
is to know when we’ve stepped off the path and lost our balance. Then
it’s possible to make adjustments so you can move through life with
the vision of the heart. The Great Conjunction Matures
In
May 2000, Jupiter met Saturn in the Great Conjunction of Taurus,
the last earth-sign alignment we’ll experience between these two
planets for centuries. Seen
from earth, Jupiter and Saturn align in the heavens every 20 years
initiating a new cycle of cultural traditions, faith, and wisdom. They
stay in the same element for about 180 years before they shift. The
last shift from fire signs to earth signs corresponded with the transition
between the Age of Exploration and Discovery (fire) and the Industrial
Revolution (earth). Now
we are shifting from earth back to air signs. It
started with their conjunction in Libra in 1980 (the air sign of
marriage, love, harmony, and social interplay). Look
how mental the world became in 20 years time. At
the midpoint of that Great Conjunction cycle (1990), the Internet
was developed to help connect the world mind field. The
divorce rate went sky high as people sought to regain balance in
their lives after living with illusions for decades. The May 2000, the seven classical planets aligned in Taurus for one last Great Conjunction in an earth sign, before the cycle shifts totally to air sign alignments. The next series starts in Aquarius on Dec 21, 2020, brining with it a tide of renaissance in conceptions, ideas, knowledge, and awareness. But before that can happen, the heavens are urging us through this concordance to get Mother Earth (Taurus) back into balance, to literally create heaven on earth. Heal the earth by healing thyself is the order of the day. A society of wholehearted balanced beings is less inclined to continue the cycle of destruction. It’s time to abolish the enslavement of the planet we live on. The
questions in 2000 were: “What
do you value and hold sacred? Do
you feel like you live a life full of presence and a deep sense of
belonging or do you feel alienated and abandoned by existence? That
Great Conjunction fell at 23 degrees Taurus, the Sabian symbol of
VALUATION. The
world is starting to glimpse the value of nature and the earth as
a holy place requiring protectors to keep the worldwide ecosystem
in balance. With our
pollution-oriented oil economy we are destroying the balance. I
think the midpoint of this cycle (2010) will bring another shocking
innovation like the Internet in the form of a new technology that
will help clean up and heal the earth. Groups
of investors are already funding research in advanced hydrogen fuel
cells and solar power options. Individually,
whatever house in your birth chart that was activated by the 23 degree
Taurus conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in May of 2000 is the arena
of life that needs to be your primary focus until 2020. You
need a twenty-year plan in that field of life. Look
back at what you initiated during May of 2000 and get ready to take
it to the next level. This Harmonic Concordance features a sextile aspect between
Jupiter and Saturn (60 degrees), symbolizing that the time has arrived
to meet the mythic mentor so that we can start organizing the creative
impulse and crystallizing the vision released and realized in 2000. The
Star of David is the signature configuration of the Jupiter-Saturn
great Conjunction Cycle. Over
a 720-year period, they trace out two of these beautiful patterns
between the earth-water signs and the fire-air signs. Their
1960’s conjunction in late Capricorn saw both planets traverse through
Aquarius together, even though their exact alignment fell in Capricorn. In
2020, they meet exactly at the beginning of Aquarius. If
you thought the 1960’s were revolutionary, radical, inventive, original,
alternative, mind-blowing, and life altering, wait ‘til you see what’s
in store on the horizon. The
Sixties were a small glimpse of what will be emerging then. And
this Harmonic Concordance is asking us to pave the pathway to that
enlightening future. Riddles in the Dark Sky
A Grand Sextile contains six sextiles (60 degree angles) interweaved with three oppositions (180 degree angles). Sextiles are angles of crystallization, talent, formation, and empowerment through synthesis, excitement, opportunity, synchronicity, communication, and spontaneity. It’s the stage in the Hero’s Journey where he or she meets the mentor and is blessed with the knowledge or tools needed to complete the quest. (Luke, your father was a great pilot and a master Jedi who was destroyed by the dark side. Here’s his light saber. You must learn the ways of the force). That was said to the world the year Chiron was discovered by the way. Chiron is the Yoda or Obi Wan of astrology. Sometimes I like to call him Mr. Miyagi. Since Chiron is the presiding outer planet in
this configuration, consider that for this 20-year conjunction cycle,
the mentor has been met in a major way. He
stands to point the way for humanity, the way into your heart. Individually,
this wise old centaur wants you to awaken to your highest, most empowering
version of yourself. Can
you download the greatest version of you from the cosmic information
zone? To understand the full potential of all those
sextiles in the sky, meditate on their meanings in your birth chart. Where
are the points of the great hexagon in the sky falling in your chart? Going
around the circle from Chiron we have: Chiron (15
Capricorn) sextiles Mars (11 Pisces): devotion,
healing, and awakening excite desire and willpower There are also three major oppositions calling
for reconciliation, illumination, and vision. The
opposition calls for reconciliation of opposing polarities. There’s
tension calling for a kind of mutual resonance between the two planetary
forces of consciousness involved. This
vision quest asks for an adjustment leading to unified consciousness. To
unify the dualities shown here with consciousness we must face and
integrate the shadow, the rejected dark parts of our nature that were
once cast into darkness. Starting
with Chiron opposing Saturn we have: Chiron in Capricorn opposes Saturn in Cancer:
devotion, healing, and awakening through ambition guided by integrity
polarizes with wisdom, responsibility, and structure focused on compassion
through unconditional love and opening of the heart. The
keys include: Embrace
the wisdom of compassion. Overcome
karmic fears through alternative therapies. Organize
your highest vision for your life. Jupiter in Virgo opposes Mars in Pisces: faith
through divine inspiration, expansion, and culture working through
a process of daily devotion to craft polarizes with willpower and desire
focused on unity consciousness, transcendence, and surrender to divine
love. The Keys include: Practice
Divine Love through service to humanity, one person at a time. Inspired
action in the field of creative imagination. Work
to ground your mythic visions in reality. Sun in Scorpio opposes Full Moon in Taurus: Life
purpose and creative vitality expressed through passionate intensity
in align with divine will for total rebirth polarizes with soul, inner
peace and security through the archetype of pleasure, abundance, fertility,
and belonging. The Taurus
Scorpio polarity is the axis of being and belonging. It
asks us to live and to experience periodic rebirths where we have to
let go and flow with the invisible waters. Can
you rebirth yourself through serenity and the discovery of inner peace. The Plot Thickens… In the summer of 1989, Chiron was in Cancer and
Saturn (along with Uranus and Neptune) was in Capricorn, dignified. 14
years have passed and now we have the same two planets opposing each
other from the other side of the axis. Now
Saturn in Cancer (detriment) faces off with Chiron in Capricorn. Chiron
has more essential dignity in earth than Saturn in Cancer. Chiron
wins the day. Alternative,
maverick forces rise to defeat government corporate powers bent on
domination and control. This
period of time we are in now is a window of opportunity to bring to
fulfillment the dreams and goals we initiated back in 1989. This
Concordance ties directly into that period (89-90) asking us to dissolve
another wall (Berlin wall fell back then). With Chiron forming a Grand Trine with Jupiter and the Full moon in the earth signs, we are being asked to embrace practical idealism, inspiring visions, and otherworldly insights. The Grand Trine invokes a river of flowing universal energy resulting in Divine Protection. If used incorrectly, it can lead to an excessive focus on leisure and self-gratification at the cost of you missing your destiny, acting as a major defense mechanism. They give a false feeling of total self-sufficiency in the earthy areas of life (money, pleasure, security, work, health, career, training, achievement, etc.) The key to banishing the laziness is to become aware of the creative powers symbolized by the planets in the signs and practice visualizing uses for their essences. The square of Venus to the Jupiter-Mars axis combined
with the Pluto quincunx to the Full Moon promises struggles and conflict
in relationships and on the home front if we can’t iron out differences
and find a communal vision. Relationships
are under considerable developmental tension for the last and the next
six months. People are
asking me, “If this thing is so harmonic, then why am I suffering so
much?” The pain and frustration
arising now are indicators of a loss of harmonic balance and mutual
resonance. You need to
take stock of your life and rediscover the elemental forces that bring
you alive and then swim in them. Pursue
your dreams at warp speed, and organize your life to create this vision
that has been deposited in your soul. The
Earth Grand Trine gives gifts of patience, endurance, reliability,
seed wisdom, nature’s power, inner peace and security, lasting stability,
and prosperity. The watery soulful Grand Trine in this concordance involves the Sun, Mars, and Saturn bringing into creative alliance the forces of creativity, passion, and discipline. These planets usually don’t get along so well, so to see them in a grand Trine is amazing. The situation must be desperate if the King is working magically with the Advisor and the First Knight. They are asking people to become disciples of their creative passions or suffer the consequences. In my own life I wrote out a schedule of “7 Sacred
Days” where I divided the seven days of the week into four, four-hour
periods, 28 four-hour blocks of time per week. At
the top of the page I listed all the activities I want to spend my
life pursuing including my creative projects and continual research
and educational activities. Then
I simply filled in the blanks with one ideal activity plus two back-up
activities. Since I’ve
created this new schedule over the last two months I haven’t lived
it everyday perfectly, but I continue to improve and fine-tune its
basic flow. At least each
day when I wake up, I can look at it to gain a creative focus for the
day that feels soulful and enriching. It’s interesting that the Full moon in the Concordance falls
right on my natal Saturn in the 5th house squaring my Sun
in Aquarius, and here I am sharing my version of creative discipline. The
Water Grand Trine bestows healing gifts, psychic vision, emotional
responsiveness, deep imagination, magnetism, soul tranquility, musical
artistic expression, detective/research abilities, and heightened sensitivity. Mars last made its conjunction to Jupiter in June of 2002. What were you doing then in terms of opportunities? How were you planning to expand your life through motivational action inspired by vision? That last conjunction was at 18 degrees Cancer. Now Saturn moves to activate that point in the Concordance, bridging the two oppositions through time (Saturn-Chiron and Jupiter-Mars). So it’s all wired together: 1989-90, May 2000, June 2002, to now, Nov 2003. Chiron was discovered on Nov 1, 1977, 26 years ago. In Jan 2002, it trined its discovery position
during its own disseminating phase that will last until it goes into
Aquarius in May 2005. What
wisdom does Chiron have for the world during this time of fruit bearing? It
will teach us to be sacred warriors of the heart, musicians of the
soul, herbalists and stewards of nature, and oracles of the heavens. As
I am often caught saying, “Argue for your limitations and you get to
keep them, but argue for your possibilities and you get to create them.” But Wait! What
About the Lunar Eclipse Full Moon? A full moon always asks if you are fulfilled in the house (field of life experience) that contains the full moon based on what you initiated 6 months before when the new moon was in the same zone. The new moon is the beginning of the cycle asking you to plant seeds of possibilities I your life that start to bud and flower 6 months later under the full moon. The fruit-bearing phase comes two new moons after the full moon (7 ½ months later) under the new moon that falls in disseminating phase to the previous new moon in question. The one in question here is the new moon of May 1st, 2003 at 12 degrees Taurus. Where does that fall in your chart? Notice how it also tunes into the May 2000 great Conjunction alignment and sextiles the Jupiter-Mars alignment of June 2002? Is this all adding up? Are you ready to eat the fruit of thy labors off the vines of dissemination on Dec 23rd under the new moon in Capricorn (2 degrees)? Are you prepared to bring in the harvest and feast on your life works this year? If not, then take heart in this fact: the moon governs our impulses, instincts, and habits, good and bad. It symbolizes our emotional conditioning and how we react to situations. The full lunar eclipse means that the earth is blocking the moon out. The sun’s rays can’t reach it. So make a commitment to banish laziness, procrastination, and bad habits you’ve wanted to overcome and under this harmonic concordance, you might just transform your life forever. The
Journey
Living is creative joy, but death can be beautiful too if you know that the soul merges with eternal being like autumn leaves falling, drifting down to land softly in the calmly flowing river, the sunlight dancing on the surface, the leaf floating effortlessly, casting its lurking shadow on the bottom of the river over the swaying algae…just as we cast our lives into the ancestral flow in the end like fallen leaves adorning the forest floor. In our lives, we can be loving, because we need love. And we can be destructive because we thrive on fear. The soul is nourished by challenge, and what is adversity without the intensity that evokes our fears, calling them to surface from the abysmal depths of the unknown… The struggle fuels the journey, but the real heroic quest lies within to cultivate seeds of compassion, to transform wounds into bliss so that finally, when we face death, even the tiny dyings that happen day by day, the rhythmic vibration of our souls will echo triumphantly through the blood of those who dwell in tomorrow, and the future hands and minds that might have wrought more pain will instead craft wondrous cultures overflowing with art. Part
of being born is to forget all this, to live fresh and unencumbered
by the creative void of the past. But
the greater being living in you remembers all too well, hoping desperately
to mold you into a creative force of gravitational love during this
mighty sojourn of the soul. I've noticed two major things happening with the concordance so far. With Uranus turning direct to head into Pisces for good, people are having an acceleration in consciousness. Whatever house Uranus is transiting through be sure to throw another log on the fire in that zone of your life. Uranus governs the impulse to do something for humanity, to take the road less traveled, and to think in ways that are not taught to think. So let originality flow in the field of life that Uranus is transiting through and in the house that occupies in your birth chart. You should bridge these two houses through your action during this next two weeks. I noticed another interesting phenomena. In my Harmonic Concordance article I said it was time for us to begin to live more authentically, to follow our dharma (truth of being). In my version of chart interpretation I always call the Ascendant your PhD in this life that points to the path of your dharma based on the sign on the cusp and the condition of the governing planet of that sign in the horoscope. As it turns out, I see people doing things under the Concordance in alignment with their natal Ascendants and the classical planet that governs their Ascendant. For instance, someone with Virgo Rising has to work a double-shift. Her first shift is at a health food coop; her next one is at a catering event for a film festival. Her sacred work of devotion (Virgo) is being expressed through her Mercury in Leo in the 12th House as Leo governs actors and the 12th house symbolizes movies. Another man is a musician who will be playing a gig for humanitarian awareness and just released his new CD called "Shining From Inside". He is a spiritual folk performer. His Ascendant is Leo and his Sun (which governs the Leo Ascendant) is in Aquarius. His music is a new original synthesis of metaphysical idea and soothing spiritual sounds. Another man who is enrolled in an alternative healing school begins his first day in the clinic today working with actual clients, and he has Cancer Rising (Healer archetype governed by the Moon) with his natal Moon in Virgo (the alternative healer). I have many, many more examples, but you get the point. It seems that the universe is aligning circumstance with people's natal Ascendants so they can live a true expression of their earth missions. What is your natal Ascendant and how can you make it flow in your life over the next two weeks? Where is the planet that governs the Ascendant? How can you actively bridge the symbolism of your rising energies with the position and meaning given by the planet that governs the Ascendant? Have fun with it and get creative!
